Mark Bikokwa in a past training session. He has attracted praise from the coach for his performance against Transmillan in the Sportpesa Shield
Head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has lauded the impact injected by Mark Bikokwa in the win over Transmillan as Ulinzi Stars opened their Sportpesa Shield campaign with a 3-0 win and has backed the forward for a big role in the team in the second half of the season.
Bikokwa was introduced at the start of the second half as replacing Oscar Wamalwa who was injured at the end of the first half and he proved a key man as the team unlocked a resistant Transmillan side that threatened to pull the biggest shock of the tournament.
Bikokwa, who was just returning to the team after missing in the first leg, scored the second goal in the game to ease pressure on Ulinzi Stars and was well involved in the third, a fine counter attack that ended in Bernard Ongoma scoring the third goal and his performance attracted praise from the coach.
”Bikokwa has been very sharp since coming back from his military courses and he showed his quality in the game. He is also very positive and is definitely a player I will use in the second leg,” The Don said.
In the match, the coach made a number of changes from the side that lost to Sofapaka in the league in the previous game, including starts for another returnee Geoffrey Kokoyo and Hassan Abdalla.
They settled well in the defence and were key in both build up and link up play, attracting further praise from the coach.
”I always tell my players to be ready at any given time. The players introduced in the team all did well and I am proud of them all. For a team to stay competitive that’s the spirit you need and sure we will benefit from this,” he added.
