Omar Boraafya takes on Kakamega Homeboyz’s Collins Kisuya in the opening game of the 2018/19 season at Bukhungu Stadium
Preparations for the second match of the season against KCB FC at Afraha Stadium took a big blow with Omar Boraafya sustaining a thigh strain that will rule him out of the Sunday 16th December clash.
Bora was one of the most impressive performers in the opening game against Vihiga United and head coach Dunstan Nyaudo was hoping he could build on the performance with a second straight start but The Don will now have to reconsider his available options.
Can’t be risked
Team Doctor John Imboywa confirmed the winger cannot be risked for the match while stating that a detailed report on his injury will be communicated after the game.
“He has a thigh muscle injury and normally, such injuries are very delicate. He is definitely out of the weekend match but we can’t state for sure how long he will be out, though an assessment will be done after this match to ascertain that,” the doctor said.
Boraafya’s exclusion from the game adds to The Don’s woes, with midfielder Bernard Ongoma set to miss the second straight game after suffering a facial cut in training ahead of the first game.
Utility man Omar Mbongi is also set to miss out after going down with illness ahead of the opening game while Ibrahim Shambi, who had to be withdrawn in the loss to Vihiga United after suffering a deep cut in the lip, remains a doubt.
The Don is however staying positive in the wake of the growing injury list and believes all will go well against the Bankers.
“The injuries are a concern but we have to get up and play with the available men. We are fighters and after the opening loss we have to get a positive result here,” he noted.
Meanwhile, assistant captain Hassan Rio Mohamed is back in training after some time out on compassionate leave.
