CDF Cup fever catching up, Nyangweso hopes to scout at event

The 2019 Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Cup football tournament will this time round be staged at the Lanet Barracks in Nakuru and as teams prepare for the much anticipated showpiece, head coach Benjamin Nyangweso is hoping to get hold of a few players, to bolster his team in preparation for the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) campaign.

The competition is set to start on 20th June and run to 4th July and ahead of kickoff, coach Nyangweso has termed it a good avenue for scouting capable players, which he said is a great advantage for Ulinzi Stars.

In the 2018 edition of the competition, Nyangweso guided Kahawa Garrison to win the title in Nanyuki and he will be better placed to know what is expected of players at the showpiece. He lauded the crucial role the competition plays in the growth of Ulinzi Stars as a team.

Rich avenue

“The CDF Cup is a very rich avenue for us scouting for potential. I think as a club we are very lucky to have such a competition where players from different units get to face off and just like any other coach in the military set up, I am looking forward to it.

“Very many capable players have come from the CDF and it is a culture that has played a big role in the growth of Ulinzi Stars as a team. It is an exciting time for us all on the technical bench and we hope to get serious players to beef up the team for a stronger challenge in the coming season and beyond,” he noted.

Matches in the competition will be played at the following grounds; 81 Tank Battalion, 3 Kenya Rifles and Kenya Military Academy.
