Head coach Benjamin Nyangweso has finalized his list of players for the second leg of the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League campaign, with the addition of three players to the squad to bolster it as he lines up his arsenal for the title charge.
Fredrick Chitai, who featured for the team in the 2013 and 2014 KPL campaigns before leaving for official duty, is back in the team and will serve to bolster the central defence position.
Chitai’s return eases the pressure on coach Nyangweso, who has had Boniface Andayi and Bonaventure Muchika as his central defence pairing for the better part of the first leg. Before getting coach Nyangweso’s call, Chitai was featuring for the Armoured Brigade team in Nakuru.
Alex Masinde will as well add the options in central defence after his confirmation. He is a member of the 2016 KPL U20 title winning team that also had Ibrahim Shambi and Ali Swaleh, both who are in the senior team at the moment.
Masinde featured briefly for Ulinzi Stars in 2017 before leaving for the Recruits Training School (RTS) then later joined the military. Up until being picked for the senior team, Masinde was featuring for the Artillery Brigade football team based in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The third player confirmed for the second leg is Francis Milimo, another central defender who is not a stranger to Ulinzi Stars, having been with the team for a brief stint in early 2018, though he did not get to feature competitively.
Milimo was with the Engineers Brigade team based in Thika prior to his call.
With defender George Omondi heading to the RTS to start his journey in the military, the addition of these players will sure give coach Nyangweso a bit of relief.
Meanwhile, Churchill Muloma and Hamisi Abdalla are set to return from military progression courses. The two missed the first half of the season and with a number of key players set to leave for their own courses, coach Nyangweso will have a lesser headache.
