Cliff Kasuti in action in a past Ulinzi Stars game. He was a key man for the Kenya U23 team in the friendly matches against Uzbekistan U23
Head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has termed it a proud moment for the team after three players from Ulinzi Stars were called up to the Kenya U23 national team in the just concluded FIFA international week and went on to feature in two friendly matches.
Midfielders Cliff Kasuti and Ibrahim Shambi, as well as goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo were part of the Kenya U23 team that played a double friendly with Uzbekistan on Friday 23rd March and Monday 26th March in Uzbekistan.
Ibrahim Shambi played the full 90 minutes in both matches as Kenya U23 faced Uzbekistan U23 in friendly matches
The three played the entire 90 minutes in the first game as Kenya U23 won 2 – 1 and Shambi and Timothy played the full game in the second while Kasuti featured for 87 minutes. In the first match, Kasuti provided an assist.
The coach says the fact that the three rose from the national U20 team to the U23 is testament to the good growth they have had and he will be hoping they continue working hard to grow even more.
“That really proved the quality we have in the team; nationally most players in the U20 do not break into the U23 team but if you look at these players, they have all been to the U20 team and are now graduating, which is a good thing for us. They all did well there and as a team it is something to be proud of,” he said.

Being with the national team, the trio missed the team’s activities during the international break, including the friendly match against Tusker, but the coach notes that it proves the squad has good depth.
“It also shows the depth in our team because we have three players out but we can still raise a team and play,” he added.
The three are back in the country with the national team but it remains unclear whether the coach will have them in the team to face Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday 31st March at Camp Toyoyo.
