After emerging top scorer in the 2018/19 season and being nominated for the Most Valuable Player for the same campaign, Ulinzi Stars forward Enosh Ochieng has admitted the pressure is on for him to repeat last season’s feat.
Enosh was a star performer as the team started the season with a win over Kisumu All Stars, scoring bth goals in the 2 – 0 victory, to continue from where he left it last season. He acknowledges that the target for the match was only to start positively, and to have contributed massively was a big plus.
Last season, the team had a losing start, falling to Vihiga United and went on to struggle for the better part of the first leg. It is from such an experience that the team set targets for this season, he said.
“We went to play a team we knew so little about but all we wanted was a win. That was very crucial because last season we lost the first match and we struggled a bit thereafter. Now we have a few days to rest before we get to the next game and we want to keep the focus and pick maximum points there too,” he said.
After netting twice, Enosh gave himself a good head start in the top scorers’ race but he is not about to sacrifice the team’s ambitions for his personal. He wants to see the team win first.
“Pressure is always there; in my case it is bigger because of what I achieved last season but then I have to be mature enough to contain it. I believe in doing the job for the team first; that way I will be remembered more,” he added.
The two goals at Moi Stadium, Kisumu made it five goals in the last three matches Enosh has played at the venue. He may add more this season with the match against Western Stima in October set for the same venue.
