Focus shifts to league campaign after Shield exit

Head Coach Dunstan Nyaudo issues instructions at a past training session

The team is set for a tough run of matches in the next few days as the season enters the second half and head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has called on a quick turn from his charges, to focus well on the league campaign following the weekend exit from the SportPesa Shield.

The Don fielded a much changed squad, with only Enosh Ochieng and Ibrahim Shambi the regulars when the team played SS Assad on Saturday 16th March, losing in the post match penalties after a barren draw, and the coach notes that success in the league campaign will only be achieved by focusing on ground yet to be covered.

Bigger fight

Next up is a clash against Tusker FC at Ruaraka Stadium on Wednesday 20th March before hosting Gor Mahia at Afraha Stadium on Saturday 23rd then Sony Sugar at Afraha Stadium on Wednesday 27th. He has called on a bigger fight in the league.

“The Shield is behind us now and it is only logical that we give our all in the league. All our focus is now there and I can say we took vital lessons from the weekend loss. Those who got to play now know that the best result is when you do your business in 90 minutes. Winning calls on fighting harder and making use of the chances created.

“In the league we try as much as possible to avoid defeat and I believe after the weekend experience we will see a better Ulinzi side, ready to do it for the badge and the name in the front of the jersey,” he said.

Up to the task

The coach is unfazed at the tight schedule staring at the team in the coming few games. He says with good squad management and everyone giving their all, the team can pick positive results in the matches.

“We agreed to support the KPL and FKF on the calendar change; the cost it comes with is squeezed matches but I can say we are up to the task and we will prepare well with the squad we have and we hope to go through all these with a positive approach for positive results,” he added.

Prior to the Shield game, Ulinzi Stars had beaten Bandari FC in a league game at Afraha Stadium, all expectation will be on the team to build on that as it resumes full strength.
