Mwanzia warms up to Mathare test

Elijah Mwanzia in action in a past Ulinzi Stars match. He is hoping to help the team win in the Saturday match against Mathare United

Elijah Mwanzia is in line to meet his former employers, Mathare United, when Ulinzi Stars troops to the pitch for the third game of the season on Saturday 22ndDecember and the forward is fired up for the clash at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

Coincidentally, Mwanzi scored his first league goal for Ulinzi Stars against Mathare United in the final match of last season, at Kasarani, and going into this game, he scored his first goal of the season, and the team’s too, in the last match, against KCB.

Special game

He has had a good time in training and says he is ready for the Mathare United challenge, a game he termed special to him, having played a crucial role in the team avoiding relegation two seasons ago.

“I have trained well and I am more motivated after last weekend. I have fond memories at Mathare United and definitely it is something special to play against them at any time. Most importantly though, we take it as any other game,” he said.

Going to the clash, Mwanzia is not just setting individual goals; he says the team is well focused on the match and throws it in as an advantage the fact that all the forward players fielded against KCB last time out, scored.

Team on top

“The team morale is up, competition is on top especially now that all the strikers scored in the past game. We are meeting a team in top form but we are also well prepared so it will be a good game,” he added.

Mathare United have posted two wins in their opening two matches, scoring five and haven’t conceded a goal. Last year, the two sides drew both home and away matches; 0 – 0 and 1 – 1 in the first and second leg.
