Elvis Nandwa (right) takes on Kariobangi Sharks defender Bolton Omwenga in the game at Camp Toyoyo on March 31st, 2018
Midfielder Elvis Nandwa put up a great game, perhaps his best of the season as Ulinzi Stars saw off Kariobangi Sharks 1 – 0 in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) staged at Camp Toyoyo on Saturday 31st March.
Nandwa’s first goal of the season came off a deft touch in the 67th minute after getting to the end of a Brian Birgen cut back, with the goal coming at the end of sustained attacks from Ulinzi Stars as the forwards raced to secure a game seemingly headed to a barren draw.
It was never a rosy affair though for Ulinzi against a Sharks side well versed with playing at Camp Toyoyo as the hosts dominated the early proceedings, even winning a penalty after skipper James Saruni conceded a penalty with a foul on Shaphan Oyugi.
The penalty was however missed by the hosts when Eric Kapaito, the man entrusted with taking the kick hit the ball wide.
Ulinzi took cue and rose well in the game, with Masita asking a few questions of Sharks keeper John Oyemba but the Kenyan international did well while he was also well covered by his defenders.
In the second half Sharks started strongly once again but good defensive discipline from the backline marshalled by Hassan Mohamed and Saruni did a superb job before Nandwa chipped in with the all important strike.
The introduction of Daniel Waweru, Ibrahim Shambi and Enosh Ochieng in the second half brought pressure to the hosts’ defence and the latter two had decent attempts going begging before Sharks had penalty shouts late in the game ignored as Ulinzi held on for the second straight away win.
