It is just about four weeks before the 2019/20 season gets underway and head coach Benjamin Nyangweso is confident Ulinzi Stars will be ready for action when the opening whistle goes.
The team played its first high tempo preseason friendly match on Wednesday 31st July, falling 1 – 2 to Tusker FC at Ruaraka ground and reacting to the performance in the clash, the coach noted that he picked a number of positives from it.
Without giving much focus on the score line at the end of it, he said his charges are at about 80% ready for competitive action and are getting it right in terms of coordination, but reiterated that some work still needs to be done on the attack.
Coordination and transition
“At this point in time we do not focus so much on the result. We lost the game but what I wanted to see more is the coordination in the team and I can say they played well. I wanted to see the transition from defence and also getting back in position after attack and I think I am satisfied so far, though being four weeks before the season starts, we still have work to do.
“At the moment we are at 75 – 80% ready and whatever remains to be worked on, especially the finishing, will be worked on and I am confident by the time we start the season we will be in top form,” he said.
The coach will have another chance to gauge his players on Saturday when the team faces Mathare United in another friendly match. Later, on 8th August, the team is slated to play Wazito FC.
