Sony condemns Ulinzi Stars to eighth loss

The poor form at Afraha Stadium continued into the 26th match day of the 2018 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) as Ulinzi Stars fell 0-1 at home to visiting Sony Sugar on Sunday 12th August.

Enoch Agwanda got the all important goal for the visitors just as the half time break approached, making it a double for Sony over Ulinzi following a similar margin away in Awendo in March.

Against run of play

The match winner for Sony came against the run of play, with Ulinzi the more dominant and piling pressure for the opener but a goal kick from Kevin Omondi pierced into midfield picking a flick there to drop right in front of the central defence and Agwanda was quickest to react, his first touch setting him through with just Jacktone Odhiambo in goal to beat.

Agwanda picked his spot well and scored the all important goal.

Agwanda’s goal came after Omondi had made a number of fine saves to keep Sony in the game, first picking a curling shot from Cliff Kasuti then stopping a fine free kick from Oliver Ruto.

Omondi’s show

Omondi also dealt well with two crosses from George Omondi in a first half that was marred with numerous stoppages, one one which saw Ulinzi winger Justin Onuonga withdrawn with injury.

The Sony keeper’s heroics extended to the second half as he stopped another Ruto free kick and a long range shot towards the end of the game.

The loss marked the third straight game Ulinzi Stars have gone winless after a draw and two loss, and while at it, have failed to score in the three games.
