Paul Muchika in training ahead of the game against Tusker FC. He has been lauded by head coach Dunstan Nyaudo for a good game on his debut, against Sony Sugar
Ulinzi Stars’ first win over Sony Sugar in nine matches, which came on Sunday 13th January, was not the only first on the afternoon at Awendo Green Stadium; two players – Bonventure Muchika and Sunday Mwahila got their debuts, and performed to head coach Dunstan Nyaudo’s expectation.
Muchika was handed a start in defence, partnering Omar Mbongi in central defence and the man who was just recently cleared after his move from Tusker, slotted in perfectly.
In The Don’s assessment, Muchika scored highly when it came to calmness at the back and awareness. His experience, having also featured for Muhoroni Youth, proved a big asset in the clash and the coach hopes to reap more from that in the season.
“Muchika is a good defender and has the experience to thrive in the top flight. He has played for Muhoroni Youth and Tusker and among his best qualities, he is calm in defence and makes good decisions,” he said.
Barring injury to the burly defender, there is a possibility he may feature against his former employers on Sunday 20th January at Afraha Stadium and the coach is willing to through him that bait.
“His debut went well but we should expect more from him. It is great that he will be facing his former side, and it is always fun to play your former team,” he added.
Former SS Assad winger Sunday Mwahila also got a feel of the action for the first time after a couple of appearances on the bench.
Though a late entrant in the game, Mwahila showed good prowess in the right flank and The Don is convinced he will be a big asset in the latter stages of the season.
“Sunday gave a good account of himself in the few minutes he got. He has been improving in training and his true qualities are coming out. He is a fast player though not just ready for a full game in the Premier League. I believe in the latter stages of the season he will be a crucial player for us,” he noted.
