Head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has secured the signing of Sofapaka FC forward Ezekiel Okare, making him his second new player in the current transfer window after the earlier acquisition of Clinton Omondi from Sony Sugar.
Okare has been on The Don’s wish list for the better part of the current transfer window and having gotten his man, the coach is confident of having a stronger and more lethal attack in the 2018/19 season.
“Okare is a proven finisher; I am happy to get him as we look forward to the coming season, which has shown all indications of being a grueling one. All he needs is play time, and I have no doubt he will do well here,” the coach said.
The forward, who joined Sofapaka in mid 2016 in the former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions’ successful push for survival, comes with an impressive profile, having netted 20 goals in the league in the two years he has been with Sofapaka.
Throughout his time at Sofapaka, Okare was used as an impact player, often coming on as a second half sub and he managed to score six in three games in 2016 in his first taste of the premier league. He then scored nine in 2017 and saw much lesser game time in 2018, netting five times.
He is expected to offer competition to forwards Masita Masuta, Oscar Wamalwa, Elijah Mwanzia and Mark Barasa Bikokwa while he will also complement the team’s top scorer for the 2018 season, Elvis Nandwa in attack.
Not the last
Okare is not the last of new faces at the team though The Don has revealed it will not be a very busy transfer window for the side.
“After Okare, I am now looking to add a forward player, midfielder and a defender then we will close that chapter and enter the crucial phase of our preseason schedule. I believe we will have much improved team than last season and so the targets will also be higher,” he added.
The team will face off with Modern Coast Rangers in another friendly match on Wednesday in Mombasa as part of the preseason program.
