Head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has declared total focus on the FKF Cup as he eyes a return to continental football
The hunger for continental football is insatiable at Ulinzi Stars and head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has called for top focus in the FKF Cup to see the team get back to brushing shoulders with Africa’s finest.
Winning the cup earns the team a chance to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederations Cup and the coach echoed chairman’s earlier sentiments about taking the tournament very seriously.
Just under a month before it kicks off, he hopes to see the team go a step better than the performance in the same competition in 2016, when the team got to the final only to fall to Tusker by a goal.
“We want to take part in continental football once again, and this tournament offers the easiest route. So my call is for total focus on it. We have spoken as a team and agreed on this, and the players are so ready to get going. In fact, they are the ones who really pushed for the club to register in this year’s competition,” he said.
With tight competition for play time in the team, the competition will also offer an opportunity for players who don’t get much game time and the coach is happy to get an extra avenue to test both the strength and depth of his team.
“We have a big squad and very capable players and with the additional matches in the tournament, of course my players who don’t get a lot of game time will feature. I have a big squad and very able players; they are psyched up for this, so it will be an exciting run out,” he added.
The draw for the competition will be done on 10th May and kickoff is set for 18th May.
