Ulinzi glides back to second with win over Wazito

Masita Masuta leads the celebrations after scoring the second goal in the win over Wazito FC on Saturday 19th May at Ruaraka Stadium

Two goals, three points, Elvis Nandwa and a clean sheet was the story of the game as Ulinzi Stars once again showed impressive mental strength in the second half to muscle past Wazito FC in the Kenyan Premier League game staged at Ruaraka Stadium on Saturday 19th May.

Three tactical changes in the second half proved crucial as Elvis Nandwa and Masita Masuta scored the goals in the 73rd and 86th minutes to see the team stretch its unbeaten run to six matches as it walked off with a fourth straight win.

While the score line may read as a stroll for Ulinzi Stars, the texture of the game wasn’t, with the players forced to contend with not just a muddy pitch, but also an inspired Wazito FC goalkeeper Phillip Odhiambo.

Odhiambo saves

Odhiambo pulled at least for great saves in the first half, twice denying Nandwa, then pulling a great fingertip save to keep out a ferocious Bernard Ongoma stab and also stopping a great attempt from Oscar Wamalwa.

He continued with his heroics in the second period, but only until The Don threw in Ibrahim Shambi, Masita Masuta and Enosh Ochieng, in place of John Kago, Michael Otieno and Cliff Kasuti.

Enosh and Shambi combined well before the latter crossed in for Nandwa to head in the opener in the 73rd minute, and Masuta would seal the three points with an 86th minute header after Nandwa picked him with a pin point cross.

The win sees Ulinzi rise to second on the log with 28 points, two behind Gor Mahia who have three matches in hand.
