Masita Masuta in action during the Sofapaka game on Sunday 27th May at Afraha Stadium
The six – game unbeaten run established by Ulinzi Stars was broken by Sofapaka on Sunday 27th May after suffering a 1 – 2 loss at the Afraha Stadium, courtesy of first half goals from Kepha Aswani and Umaru Kasumba’s goals.
On form forward Elvis Nandwa hit the consolation goal, also coming in the first half as Ulinzi showed nervousness in defence, uncharacteristic of the side in the past few matches.
The team headed to the game on four straight wins, and three straight clean sheets, the latest having come against Wazito FC before the Sunday but a speedy start from Sofapaka proved too tough to handle as the visitors established early dominance.
After a number of misses, Kasumba would open scores in the 30th minute after taking advantage of a feeble clearance header from Mohamed Hassan and the second goal came four minutes later when a poorly cleared ball was picked by Aswani to hit past Jacktone Odhiambo for the second goal.
Nandwa halved the scores in the 43rd minute as Ulinzi Stars started getting a grip in the game but his third goal in three matches proved just to be the consolation.
The team will now turn focus to the Shield competition, with a game against Kitale based Transmillan FC set for Sunday 3rd June.
