Ulinzi withstands Mbongi, Masuta injuries to smash Nakumatt

Oscar Wamalwa came off the bench to score as Ulinzi Stars spanked Nakumatt 3 – 0 at Afraha Stadium

Ulinzi Stars continued with their rise in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) with a 3 – 0 win over Nakumatt FC on a rainy afternoon at the Afraha Stadium on Wednesday 29th August.

Omar Mbongi gave Ulinzi Stars an early lead, as he rose to head home the opener in the sixth minute from Daniel Waweru’s corner but three minutes later the match had to be halted for about 40 minutes as the heavens opened up.

When the rains subsided, The Don was forced to make a change as Mbongi was injured. Kago rose from the bench to replace him.

Masuta injured

Soon after, Masita Masuta joined him off injured and was replaced by Oscar Wamalwa – just like it was the case in the first leg at Machakos.

Wamalwa would go on to double the lead in the 88th minute when he slotted home a flicked pass from Enosh Ochieng.

The game had another short stoppage as a scuffle ensued after Elvis Nandwa was hit by Nakumatt defender Eugene Ambulwa. The confrontation saw substitute keeper Jacktone Odhiambo sent off along with Nakumatt’s reserve player Charles Bruno.

Nandwa’s show

When all calmed down, Nandwa slammed home the third goal, his second in the season against Nakumatt, ninth in the league and tenth overall.

The win sees the team hit 44 points after 29 matches. Next up is a SportPessa Shield clash against Riverplate on Saturday in Kakamega.
