Back to winning ways as Ulinzi Stars skin Leopards

Elvis Nandwa celebrates his goal against AFC Leopards at Afraha Stadium on Sunday 30th September

Ulinzi Stars got back to winning ways with a 2 – 1 victory over AFC Leopards in the last game of the 2018 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) season at Afraha Stadium on Sunday 30th September.

Two losses in the last two outings had left sunken hearts at the team but Elvis Nandwa’s early goal lifted spirits as he gave a fine first touch to a second minute free kick by Oliver Ruto to wrong foot the entire Leopards defence and he fired easily past an exposed Edwin Mukolwe.

The early goal gave the team momentum and a few more good chances followed, though they went begging with Masita Masuta hitting the bar with a great header from Daniel Waweru’s cross before Nandwa headed into the ground another good cross from Ruto.

Ulinzi too had moments of scare when skipper James Saruni rushed out to foil a great chance by Whyvonne Isuza while Isuza also hit wide another good chance with just the keeper to beat.

Masita had a goal ruled out for a foul on AFC Leopards keeper Edwin Mukolwe after he failed to hold on a low shot from Daniel Waweru.

Second half action

In the first action of the second half Hassan Mohamed missed narrowly with a well powered shot and from the ensuing action Leopards got their equalizer in beautiful fashion as their captain Duncan Otieno beat Saruni with a powerful curling shot in the 50th minute.

However, Enosh Ochieng would rise from the bench to score the winner in the 81st minute after meeting an inviting cross from Cliff Kasuti to head past Edwin Mukolwe.

The win took Ulinzi Stars to third on the log at the expense of Leopards and Sofapaka, who drew with Nakumatt in another game on the day,
