Ulinzi Stars have two players – defender Harun Mwale and goalkeeper Timothy Odhiambo – called up to the Kenya U23 national team that is set to start preparations for the U23 African Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.
The team is set to assemble for a two – day training camp early in November and the two have been asked to make plans for the training, set for 3rd and 4th of November in Nairobi.
The national team is set to face Mauritius in the first round of the qualifiers slated for between November 12th and 20th and the side led by coach Francis Kimanzi will be looking to advance to the latter stages, with the second and third rounds of qualifiers set to be played in March and June 2019 respectively.
This will not be the first time Ulinzi players receive call ups to the national team; earlier this year Ibrahim Shambi and Cliff Kasuti along with Timothy were in the team that travelled to Uzbekistan for two friendly matches.
The 2019 AFCON U23 finals will be hosted in Egypt in December 2019 and the three best finishers at the tournament qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Kenya’s last participation in 2015, was ended by Botswana after a 1 – 4 loss in the first round of the qualifiers.
