Masita Masuta is a key injury concern as the team prepares to take on Nzoia Sugar. He will be subjected to a fitness test ahead of departure for Bungoma on Friday
Top scorer Masita Masuta may be forced to miss the trip to Bungoma where Ulinzi Stars is set to take on his former team, Nzoia Sugar in the 14th match of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) campaign on Saturday 5th May.
The striker, who scored his fifth goal of the season in the game against Chemelil Sugar on Sunday, came from the bench to score in a friendly match against Nakuru Youth Olympic on Thursday 3rd May at Afraha Stadium but seemed to pull a muscle in the rain soaked game that Ulinzi won 10 – 0.
The striker was pulled out late in the second half against Chemelil Sugar on Sunday to rest him, having returned from a thigh injury suffered in the previous game against Nakumatt, and playing in the rain against Nakuru Olympic seemingly aggravated the injury and he will be subjected to late tests before the team leaves for Bungoma on Friday.
“It is still early to tell but we had to take precaution because of the earlier injury against Nakumatt. Playing in them in the rain was aimed at building their resilience just in case we get the same conditions in Western but sadly Masita finished as a concern.
“He will be looked at tomorrow before we leave but we will not risk him for this trip if he doesn’t prove he is fit enough. It is a concern but we have other capable players,” head coach Dunstan The Don Nyaudo said.
On a positive note, The Don was pleased at the massive score line in the friendly match, terming it a good boost to the players’ confidence. Enosh Ochieng and defender Hassan Mohamed scored braces, Cliff Kasuti helped himself to four goals while Oscar Wamalwa and Masuta netted one each.
“I have seen a lot of positivity from the players. Their confidence is growing and I hope it will not get to the overconfidence levels as we head to this game. They are motivated and save for the injury concern, I think we are on the right track,” the coach added.
Nzoia Sugar beat Ulinzi Stars home and away last season and heading to the game from a 3 – 0 win over Thika United, The Don has warned his players against complacency in the clash at Sudi Stadium.
