Elijah Mwanzia will meet his former employers, Mathare United for the first time since decamping to Ulinzi Stars in midseason and he hopes to have a big impact in the Sunday 7th October game, which will be the last of the season.

Mathare United holds a special place in Mwanzia’s heart; his three goals at the tail end of the 2017 season helped Mathare United secure survival in the top flight and he says it has always been his wish to face them.

Having trained well in the week, Mwanzia is hoping to get a chance to face his former team mates, and though there is pressure in the game, looking at both teams’ ambitions, he hopes he can get to score in the clash.

“Playing Mathare United is something special for me; I have always wished for this chance to meet them again and here we are. I hope the coach picks me for the match.

“I have trained well all week and I feel ready for the game. I have hopes that I can get a goal in the game and also looking at the fact that I have not scored for Ulinzi in the league, I see this a good chance for me. It comes with a lot of pressure but the coach has been helping me a lot,” he said.

Convince coach

The final game of the season will come just before the team plays AFC Leopards in the SportPesa Shield third place playoff and Mwanzia sees it as an opportunity to convince the coach of his readiness.

“There is the Shield playoff coming up after this game and the coach’s policy is to give one game time depending on the performance in training and the previous game so how I view this game is that it is a chance for me to get a league goal for Ulinzi and stake a claim for my place in the AFC Leopards game,” he added.
