Hassan Rio Mohamed has called on a better attack as the only way the team will rise from the current low
Assistant captain Mohamed Rio Hassan has added his voice to the calls of a better conversion rate to fuel Ulinzi Stars’ ambitions in the 2018 campaign. The defender’s call comes in the wake of the team going three straight matches without scoring a goal.
Ulinzi Stars has not been short of creativity in terms of carving out goal scoring chances but the main issue has been failing to make use of them, a factor that has attracted regular lamentations from head coach Dunstan Nyaudo, and Rio has picked it too as a concern.
The defender says the burden of failing to score should not just be left on the forward players and calls on everyone at the team to work harder to get the team scoring.
Even defenders can score
“We are playing well as a team and the only thing we need to do now is to get goals and this is not just a burden we want to put on strikers, everyone should work to ensure that we build up well and get goals. Even defenders can score; the core issue is that we realize we are not doing so well and we can only win games by scoring goals,” he said.
The team will next face Posta Rangers in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash at Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday and Rio says this is a game they can’t afford to drop any more points, as the team comes from two straight losses and a draw earlier.
“As we set out to play Posta on Sunday, we know very well what this game means to us; they are a tough side and with good players but for us this is a must win game. We are facing a team that has also not been doing so well and will want to get one over us but we must stay in the right state of mind and go for a win here,” he added.
