Venue change for Vihiga United clash

The opening match of the season pitting Vihiga United against Ulinzi Stars will be staged in Kakamega at the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday 9th December.

The match was initially planned for Mumias, at the Mumias Sports Complex on the same date but the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has confirmed the change of venue for the game.

Kickoff time for the clash remains 3pm.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides in history. Vihiga United played its first season in the premier league this year.


In the first meeting, at Afraha Stadium, the team shocked Ulinzi Stars 1 – 0 courtesy of Christopher Masinza’s lone strike but Ulinzi recovered to beat the team 2 – 0 in the second leg meeting and Vihiga United was once again paired with Ulinzi Stars in the Shield tournament, and Ulinzi had to come from a goal down to register a 2 – 1 win.

Led by Dunstan Nyaudo, Ulinzi Stars will be playing at the Bukhungu Stadium for the fourth time on Sunday. In the first game under The Don, Masita Masuta came off the bench to head home the winner against Kakamega Homeboyz.

In the second game in Kakamega, Ulinzi Stars fell 0 – 1 to Posta Rangers before picking a 3 – 1 win over River Plate FC at the same venue in the Shield.

The coach has called for a strong start from his charges.
